After a legal battle between director Michael Powell and producer David O. Selznick, Gone to Earth (1950) was re-edited. The following are some of Selznick's changes: (1) Including a prologue in the story. (2) Adding scenes that explain things, sometimes by labeling or inscribing them. (3) Adding more Jennifer Jones close-ups. He also cut a few sequences that he didn't think were emotional enough. Unfortunately, several of them were significant plot points, and as a result, the story does not make as much sense as it did in the original.
